An internship opportunity at Canadian Living magazine is available for students graduating from the accelerated e-journalism program at Loyalist College
This article by Robert Washburn, professor of e-journalism at Loyalist College, starts the investigation with some basic terminology and an overview of this growing trend.
But, it will not stop here. Over the upcoming days and months, the project will post articles, blogs, resources, links and other important materials to enhance the understanding of hyperlocal journalism and assist those interested in starting a hyperlocal news site.

Recent e-journalism grad Brian St. Denis launched a new zine based on his online magazine, Shooting the Wounded, on July 8.
Both the zine and the website examine the alternative arts scene, focusing on a museum, a music concert, books and a unique cafe in Guelph.
St. Denis started the website as part of his online publication project, then moved to a printable version distributed by PDF. His experience in the magazine stream in the Print Journalism program gave him the necessary skills to try the zine.

The Accelerated E-journalism class of 2009 released their new hyper-local publications in June covering a wide range of topics.
The subject areas cover arts, sports, sustainable living, social justice and outdoor living. Students could choose from a thematic or geographic approach. Some even decided to do both. Using either Blogger.com or Wordpress, the students created their own publications, which they can continue to publish after leaving the college. The students also used social media to enhance their publications and grow their audience.

Project Fear Less - Cameroon, Africa
Students provided coverage of Rotary International Polio Plus inoculation project in Cameroon, Africa, posting it to a special website called Project Fear Less.
The idea was to focus attention on the plight of the people. By giving something attention, it means we fear it less.
Read the compelling accounts of reporters in the field, bearing witness to the lives of the people and those trying to help them.
studentWorksis a gallery of student material posted during their time in the post-graduate e-journalism program. Most of it is archived materials, but clearly demonstrates some of the earliest experimentation and classroom work of our students.
